About the Arena
About the Fenton W. Chester Arena It began as a dream in the early 1970's. A group of local businessmen, led by Fenton Chester, formed a committee to look into building a skating facility in Lyndonville. There were many setbacks; taken to court by irate neighbors and townspeople, they persevered and won the court battles. In getting a federal grant from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, which stipulated that the building had to be open on three sides, they obtained a waiver to this rule.
Finally in the fall of 1979, the dream had become a reality. The Lyndon Ice Arena opened for it's first season. The following spring, the board of directors of the Lyndon Area Sports Association, the organization that runs the facility, voted to change the name to "Fenton W. Chester Arena."
In the years since, many improvements have been made. The snack bar was enlarged, locker rooms C and D were built, the pro shop was constructed, new boards and glass were iinstalled, a new boiler and water softening system improved efficiency, energy efficient lighting and compressors motors were installed. New scoreboard and sound system were installed. A new trophy case now sits in the snack bar. The interior of the building was insulated and painted and new rubber matting on all floors. New bleachers were purchased. In 2010 we installed a new dehumidifier with the second one to be installed in 2011. The bathrooms were also redone in 2011.
Please join us from Mid-October until the beginning of March for public skating.
